Meet Damon Stead!
Damon Stead, Factotum to the Miniature Macrocosm, has been with Our Home & Miniature Land since its mini beginnings. One of our finest modellers, Damon’s beautiful masterpieces display incredible levels of detail and artistry. The time and patience he commits to each of his projects is clearly obvious. At Our Home & Miniature Land, Damon’s time involves working with the structures team helping to design, build, paint and light various buildings. Make sure to check out Damon’s latest work, the piano move, or what looks like something from a what-not-to-do-when-moving scene.
In 2001, Damon graduated from the illustration program at Sheridan College where he learned to perfect his artistic skill. From an early age, he has been surrounded by the world of model railroading. He says that for as long as he can remember, there has been a model train in the basement, which he also believes was his father's excuse to buy toys.
Outside of Our Home & Miniature Land, Damon is part of the Credit Valley Railway Company, a.k.a a model railroaders dream. Working at a hobby shop with other enthusiasts allows him to fully immerse himself in his favourite subject, model railroading. It was also the site where the tracks of Damon and Dave MacLean met. This introduction eventually led to his position at Our Home & Miniature Land.
You can probably guess what his favourite hobby is, but aside from model railroading, Damon is a talented artist, practicing his skill through drawing, painting and photography. Also, he is an avid music collector with his library primarily on vinyl. His favourite book to kick-back with is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the five part trilogy, by Douglas Adams and his go-to flick is The Big Lebowski.
Like everyone at Our Home & Miniature Land, Damon is always a team player who brings a valuable level of creativity and skill. Be sure to check out more of Damon’s work scattered throughout the exhibits like this representation of a cement factory, it’ll leave you wonderstruck.
